BOMAG tandem rollers set new standards in asphalt construction. Equipped with an individually configurable touchscreen, they achieve a new level of user-friendliness. With the ASPHALT MANAGER compaction system, the required compaction results in asphalt and road construction can be achieved particularly quickly. Setting the machine parameters is easy − all the operator needs to do is select the paving layer.
All the machine's functions and equipment options have been thought out down to the last detail. A BOMAG pivot-steered tandem roller is reliable, durable and particularly efficient thanks to ECOMODE/ECOSTOP and optional hybrid technology. All functions of the tandem roller can now be preset on the individually configurable, high-resolution, 10-inch touchscreen.
The menu navigation is very simple. All settings are easy to grasp and are visualised in a clear and self-explanatory way.
The exact positioning of the individual switches is no coincidence and is based on a precise analysis. The functions used particularly often in everyday work are positioned as close as possible.
Every important function is within easy reach. No one has to stretch much in a tandem roller with myCOCKPIT.
For the very best visibility, optional heated and electrically adjustable front side mirrors, four additional mirrors (on cab and rear frame) and various camera systems (passive & active) are available.
The BW 154 AP-5 and BW 174 AP-5 models were awarded the AGR seal of quality by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. (campaign for back health) - the first construction machinery ever to receive this accolade.
The entire machine was certified regardless of the selected configuration. Its purchase can be certified as a health-promoting measure.
The control elements are optimally positioned, and individual adjustment options ensure every driver has an upright and comfortable sitting position.
The sprung seat can be adjusted to the driver’s weight, and the cab is also decoupled and mounted on vibration-damping bearings - factors that ensure significantly fewer jolts and vibrations.
Machines equipped with the optionally available light package also have the so-called "follow-me-home" function.
In this case, the two spotlights on the front side of the cab remain active for a short time after the machine has been switched off and light the way for the driver across the construction site.
The edge cutter of the tandem roller can be changed very quickly. Only three screws need to be loosened or tightened.
And if the machine is to be operated with a chip spreader, this is also very quickly ready for use. All connections can be easily reached from the side.
The windows on the new generation of BOMAG rollers are particularly large and extend very far downwards at the same time.
The roller driver can see the edge of the drum from the side seating position with the window closed. This provides an excellent overview—a factor that increases safety on the construction site around the roller.
By means of an optionally available second monitor, which is then positioned at the top rear of the cab, the roller operator can keep an eye on all compaction parameters even when reversing.
Even looking at the drum edge when reversing is no problem. The driver can see it via the additional mirrors in the cabin interior.
A pivot-steered tandem roller must have a split drum. Only then can the large steering angles truly be exploited and the shearing forces reduced to a minimum.
The APO versions, in particular, can be used for compaction on seams (hot to cold), bridges and close to buildings.
Whether bearing, binder or surface course, easily compactable material or difficult to compact materials such as chip mastic or low-temperature asphalts—the amplitude automatically adapts to the compaction degree already achieved.
Unnecessary passes or even jump operation are avoided. Thanks to the integrated EVIB measuring values, the compaction progress is always transparent for the driver.
The drum surface visibility is also outstanding. The wind-protected nozzles of the water spraying system are in direct line of sight.
The operator can immediately see whether the water spraying system is working and intervene at an early stage before a drum that is too dry leads to possible quality losses.
The heavy tandem roller is equipped with two redundant water pumps. The large water tank is located underneath the cabin. This ensures a low centre of gravity. It can be filled from both sides and with up to 200 l/min in four minutes.
To prevent frost damage, residual water can also be easily flushed out of the pipes, hoses and nozzles with antifreeze (after draining the water from the tank) at the touch of a button.
The comfort seat can be moved sideways and rotated. There is now no need to take your hand off the steering wheel when turning because the unlock button for seat rotation is located directly on the steering wheel.
When turning to the right, 180 degrees are possible and to the left, 75 degrees are possible. A comfort seat with air suspension is available as an option.
Very large, non-slip steps lead up to the cabin. There are handholds in many places—for easy access and safe machine maintenance.
The large lashing rings on the side are positioned so that the machine can be secured from the ground.
Not only the windows but the entire cabin is generously dimensioned. There are storage areas everywhere. Cup holders are included, and a secure place for a cooler bag has also been thought of.
The cabin floor is completely closed, making it particularly easy to keep clean. So if you really wanted to, you could also put a carpet in the cabin. This is how a BOMAG machine with myCOCKPIT can become your favourite workplace.
The side windows can therefore always remain closed. The cabin can then be easily air-conditioned. A pleasant 21 °C from early in the morning until the afternoon—no problem.
The desired temperature is set with the automatic climate control. And best of all: Thanks to the clever positioning of the many air vents, the windows do not mist up.
Alternatively, the machine operator can control the roller conventionally by pressing and turning the switches. Every switch position can be felt.
By means of the additional rotary switch on the travel lever, the functions can be toggled and selected on the screen. The travel lever, steering wheel and seat are a single unit.
The work lights are mounted on the frame and the roof; drum edge lighting and side lighting are optional.
A total of up to 16 spot lights, all equipped with LED technology, make the working area as bright as day. The switches in the cockpit are also backlit on this tandem roller.
