Boppard, 7 April 2025: At bauma 2025 in Munich, BOMAG is showcasing another innovative highlight for contractors, subcontractors and rental companies: the new RS 250-2 tractor-towed planer. This major upgrade raises the bar in combining performance, efficiency and flexibility for road construction, base stabilisation and the construction of embankments and backfills.
Compared to larger models, such as the RS 300, the RS 250-2 offers a decisive advantage: it needs less tractor power and can even be used with machines from 250 hp to a maximum of 350 hp. This lowers the entry hurdle for companies that rely on flexible and cost-effective solutions. The tractor-towed planer is driven directly by the tractor’s rear PTO and enables efficient soil milling, mixing and stabilisation – with no need for costly soil replacement. This complies with the requirements of the German Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act (KrWG) and contributes to the ecological sustainability of construction projects.

In combination with a tractor-towed planer, such as the RS 250-2, tractors offer contractors an economical solution, as they can be used flexibly for other tasks on the construction site. This leads to a higher machine utilisation rate throughout the year. Thanks to the 3-point hitch (category 3 or 4), the planer is quick and easy to attach. The hydraulic top link enables precise inclination correction, while the milling depth can be variably adjusted via hydraulically configurable side plates.
With a working width of 2.1 m and a maximum milling depth of 50 cm, the RS 250-2 is ideal for a wide range of applications, including path and road construction and base stabilisation. Power is transmitted via a powerful belt drive that ensures consistent milling performance.
The machine is equipped with high-quality carbide cutters that are optimised for different types of soil:
The proven BMS 15 L exchange holder system allows cutters and holders to be replaced quickly and easily. This reduces maintenance times, significantly increasing machine availability.
The tractor-towed planer was designed specifically for practical use on construction sites. The single-sided rotor drive ensures a zero side, allowing work to be carried out directly along embankment edges or around obstacles without any problems. In addition, the offset drive has reduced the maintenance effort required. The machine requires an input speed of 1,000 rpm, which is optimally matched to the drive train via the standard-size PTO (1¾ inch). Depending on the tractor model and the wheel/tyre combination, the PTO shaft angle is only 2° at maximum milling depth. As well as minimising wear, this also allows for consistent power transmission.
The BOMAG RS 250-2 is specially tailored to the requirements of smaller construction projects. The machine comes into its own in areas where soil replacement is not economically or ecologically viable. By combining a tractor and tractor-towed planer, construction companies can flexibly expand their machine fleet and implement their projects with a high degree of efficiency. The tractor's versatility – for example, as a towing vehicle for binder spreaders, water barrels or other attachments – maximises the economic benefits for the company.
Contractors, subcontractors and rental companies are invited to experience the new RS 250-2 tractor-towed planer live at bauma 2025. At the BOMAG stand, visitors can find out more about the advantages and technical details, and see for themselves how powerful the machine is.
